What Vehicle Should You Choose?

<<back

Need a new set of wheels? First Source Federal Credit Union can help you get the vehicle you want. Question is; do you know what you want? Before you make any quick decisions, we want to share with you some simple questions to help narrow down your choice:
Would a small economical sedan suit your needs? Do you need a vehicle with more space in it, like a minivan? Do you want an eight cylinder, or will a 4 cylinder be more practical, especially with gas prices. How about a sport-utility vehicle, or are you thinking more luxurious if you plan on traveling a lot? Today there are so many vehicles to choose from, but the bottom line is choosing the right vehicle that fits your lifestyle, budget, driving habits, daily routine and personal taste. Here’s an idea of some simple questions that can help you decide:
How many people will you be transporting?
If you have a family you may want to consider a minivan or an SUV. Test-drive the vehicle and see if it will be comfortable enough to fit adults in the back seat with plenty of leg room. Also think about easy access. Does the vehicle have four doors, or if you’re looking at a minivan does it have sliding doors on both sides? When you’re transporting several people you want to keep in mind convenience as well as comfort.
What size vehicle do you want?
Consider whether or not you are involved in outdoor activities and the space you’ll need in the vehicle. Do you need the room for supplies or maybe you travel frequently?
For this type, a smart choice would be a larger vehicle, like a SUV or a wagon style. Don’t worry, wagons don’t look like a car you grandmother would drive! If you need the room, but you want something more cost efficient, there are many sedans available today that the rear seat folds down allowing access to the trunk for carrying larger items.
What are your driving conditions?
Are you in a wet or snowy climate with slippery or icy roads? Are you in a mountain or hilly environment? Do you travel on dirt roads or does you hobby include a lot of off-road riding? These questions are real easy to answer if you live in upstate NY! When shopping, you may want to consider a four wheel drive or an all wheel drive vehicle for safety as well as being handy.
What about fuel?
If the economy stays the same this will be the first question that everyone will think about before purchasing a new vehicle. Large vehicles, in most cases will have poor fuel economy. The small sedans usually get the most gas mileage. The worst vehicles are the extra large, super heavy SUVs. Before committing to just any vehicle think about all the additional costs of having the vehicle, like insurance and maintenance.
